International Global Summit is a two-day international relations simulation for college and school students held annually in Mumbai, India. The summit is empowered by VIMUN, further organized by students of Institute of International Studies (IIS). At IGS India, delegates will gain an insight into the workings of the United Nations and the dynamics of international relations by assuming the roles of UN representatives and members of other international bodies and national cabinets. IGS India is an exciting opportunity for students to debate issues that confront world leaders and to draft resolutions in response to these global issues. Participants will develop their abilities to work with others who are equally motivated and passionate about the topics of debate and to respond to global concerns.
True to the spirit of the United Nations, founded in 1945, IGS strives to foster a constructive forum for open dialogue on complex global issues, including international peace and security, and economic and social progress. IGS India stresses the in-depth examination and resolution of pressing issues, emphasizing process over product. During the conference, students learn the importance of balancing national interests with the needs of the international community, while also learning about the powers and limitations of international negotiation. Delegates will preserve their countries’ national policy while negotiating in the face of other, sometimes conflicting, international and national policies.
From the founder's desk
Once Albert Einstein said, "Peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved by understanding."
As I take a moment to celebrate over the 4 years gone by, I am humbled in learning that what in 2016 was considered to be an elitist classroom activity has today become a quintessential pre-requisite for every school to be labeled as an abode of learning. No matter how many Model UN conferences I attend, I’m always a little amazed. These are students who could be hanging out at home, watching TV, or playing video games, and instead, they want to put on a suit, work on a weekend, and develop solutions to the world’s most important problems. Whilst academic discussions will undoubtedly herald an age of great thinkers, millennials need to be empowered to be doers.
IGS was born of one belief, to provide a direction to the youth for their hidden underlying potential to act for today, rather than waiting for tomorrow.
Through this initiative, we would sincerely endeavor to promulgate the highly entailed spirit of benevolence, good governance and the importance of negotiations for we all are the ones that can be the change we wish to see around the world. An initiative that shall be a cornerstone to the essence of the International and Indian democracy, its illustrious history and the improvements that can be brought up for public welfare.
We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future. Its time for you to take up the podium and deliver, let the true spirit of humanity always prevail.
